Join Vivian Galinari, Spark AR Expert from the Creative Engineering team at Facebook for an interactive hands-on workshop that will inspire you to design and publish new Spark AR effects eligible for the newly launched North America Spark AR Competitions, a new pilot program for eligible AR creators in the US, Canada and Mexico (Competition is not open if you are based outside North America). We invite you to join this Spark AR Workshop even if you are not eligible to enter the Competition! You will get inspired to create and publish your own customized Super Hero Effect and learn a range of Spark AR capabilities: from designing Laser Eye emitters, to adding a faceMesh and a cool background animation and experimenting with Render Pass in Spark Studio!

The first official Spark AR competition invites creators just like you to compete online for more than $160,000 in prizes, including a grand prize of $30,000, plus daily $100 gift cards. All of the prizes are calculated and won based on the performance of the effects you submit!

For the first competition, our theme is Get Superpowered and we’re asking you to create AR effects that showcase any superhero-like ability, ranging from super speed or shapeshifting, to mind reading or elemental control.

Vivian will showcase step by step how to create an innovative Laser Eyes Spark AR Effect for Instagram so you can get inspired to create your own signature AR Effect and submit it for the Spark AR Competitions.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Your Facebook account is used to sign in to Spark AR Studio, and to publish your effects! To fully participate in this workshop, here are the tools you'll need besides a Facebook account.

Spark AR Studio by Facebook - this is the software used to create effects for Facebook and Instagram

Spark AR Hub - this is where you will upload your effect, view insights and track activity

Spark AR Player for Android and iOS - used to preview your effects in real-time through your phone

Post-Workshop Showcase

Join the Spark AR Creator Days Facebook Group to share your new Instagram effects created during the workshop and get more feedback!

Use all of your creative powers to build something super, and then just follow these steps to start competing:

STEP 1

• Sign Up: Head over to Spark AR Hub and select the Competitions page.

STEP 2

• Download Assets from the Competition Tab if you would like to use the assets pack designed exclusively for the Competition
• After completing the signup, you’ll receive a welcome email
• Download your optional superpower pack of creative assets
• Or simply create your own!

STEP 3

• Submit Your Effects
• When you’re ready to submit your effects: Follow the normal effect publishing steps and select Competition Entry
